Description
The new W480is a compact search and rescue location device designed for the personal safety of crew members or professionals working at sea.
Using the supplied clip, it can be mounted on self-inflating life jackets and also attached directly to the oral inflation tube.
In the event of a fall overboard, the W480 will start to operate automatically thanks to the sensors located on the back of the device and will transmit a radio signal that can be used to locate the person overboard.
The W480 is equipped with an on/off knob and a safety lock to prevent the device from being activated accidentally.
The device is also equipped with a high-performance light signal (LED) to facilitate the location of the person overboard in conditions of poor visibility, as well as a large test or manual activation button.
To ensure correct operation of the device and to check the battery level, the user must ensure that the activation knob is in the OFF position before pressing the test button.
In open water and with the activation knob in the ARMED position, the user can press the button to send the alarm signal manually.
W480 simultaneously emits a series of SAR signals including an AIS message [AIS MOB on AlS channels 1 and 2) and a DSC message [Ch 70]. This MOB is compliant with AMRD Group A.
The emission of several signals increases the chances of people in distress being located by SAR rescue units receiving the signals.
A sophisticated integrated GPS receiver provides the position of the crew member. The batteries supplied with the device (three 3 volt LiMn02 batteries) have a guaranteed life of 5 years (in normal weather conditions) and can be replaced directly by the user.
TheW480 is an extremely easy-to-use device and thanks to the ergonomic design and the shape of its controls, it can be easily activated, even if the user is wearing gloves and/or protective clothing, such as on an offshore platform.
The W480 is also available in an ATEX version [W480 EX).
